Twitter Is Testing a Feature to Flag Politicians’ Misleading Tweets
Twitter | February 23, 2020
Twitter is testing a new feature that will clearly flag the politicians and public figures’ deceptive tweets, as reported by a news agency. The tweets identified as “harmfully misleading” will be flagged with red and orange badges, and the verified information from fact-checkers and journalists will be displayed along with it.
As shown in the tweets below that are about the similarities between coronavirus and HIV, a clarified message is also shown saying that many viruses have the same symptoms as HIV. Also, it identifies there are no proves that coronavirus is human-created. The clarified tweet is as prominent as the original tweets, so it cannot be ignored or missed by other users.
The feature is possibly the first step of the anti-misinformation policy that the company is expected to implement from March 5th onwards. It is the same day, the company will practically implement the recently announced ban on deep fakes.
