Twitter introduces a spam and abuse filter for DMs

Twitter launches an anti-abuse filter, accessible on its Direct Messages for Twitter on iOS, Android, and Web apps. The company made an official announcement regarding it being under-test in August and today, it is finally available to the public. The filter is available on the Additional messages inbox, where messages from people you don’t follow appear. If you click on it, the automated feature gives the option to immediately delete messages with potentially offensive content – without opening them first. The new filter for DM is useful for users who are wary of the abusive content that is a norm on Twitter and other messaging services. However, the feature is a little late by Twitter, as many third-party developers have launched their own filtering tools due to the overabundance of offensive content on the World Wide Web.
