To market successfully on Facebook, there needs to be an understanding of Facebook Dynamics and we need to have a look at what’s happening today on Facebook in brief. Now we have gone over this a little bit previously, hence that is why we will keep it brief in this section. Currently there are over 660 million, in fact it is nearly at 700 million users on Facebook. 60 % of those are over the age of 25 and the fastest demographic growth on Facebook is women over the age of 55 years. The largest demographic on Facebook is 35 to 49 year olds. A lot of people perceive that Facebook users are quite young – and they are the early adopters. University students, college and high school students were the early adopters of Facebook but now we have the mums and dads and even grandparents who are joining Facebook in droves. Users spend over 20 billion minutes a day on Facebook with the average user online for around an hour a day. So if you are not using Facebook for an hour a day then someone else is using your hour plus theirs. This is a platform that is very trusted that connects people at their ultimate level of community sense of belonging. They want to be connected and in touch with what their friends, family and contacts are doing throughout the day and they will check in 2 or 3 times a day. The average user is connected to 135 friends on Facebook and are connected to 80 pages – these pages could be business pages, brand pages, pages promoting books, movies, services and more. These are pages that the user is happy to be publicly connected with on Facebook and to be kept up to date with what is happening with that brand/product/service etc.
