Nvidia GTX 970 class action claim site is now live
US residents who purchased an Nvidia GTX 970 between 1 September 2014 and 24 August 2016 can now put in a claim for $30 USD (per card) at a newly launched class action litigation site. This pertains to the amalgamated class action suits brought against Nvidia for misleading advertising, widely reported on back in July.

The cases claimed GTX 970 cards we sold to customers “based on inaccurate or misleading information regarding the GTX 970’s specifications, performance, and capabilities”. Most notoriously, the 970’s 4GB VRAM capabilities were split between 3.5GB of VRAM and a slower 0.5GB portion. As part of the settlement, Nvidia do not admit to any wrongdoing.

If you opt to submit a claim (it’s optional, after all), you need to do so before 30 November 2016. A written claim post-marked with that date will also be acceptable. Follow the instructions on the site (there’s an in-depth FAQ if you get stuck), and you’ll be eligible to receive $30 USD.

Alternatively, if you wish to opt-out of the lawsuit (and retain the right to sue Nvidia separately at a later date), you can do that too. The site also features information and details on expressing an objection to the settlement, and even for appearing at a court hearing about the settlement on 7 December 2016.
