Facebook Expands Its Support Of News Publishers

Trying to make up for spreading fake news, upending the traditional news business and similar sins, Facebook is expanding its support for local news publishers. That includes an additional $4.5 million investment in programs that support news publishers, Campbell Brown, Global Head of News at Facebook, announced Thursday.Most of the money -- $3.5 million -- funded what Facebook calls a Membership Accelerator. The three-month pilot program was designed to help news organizations with membership models take a big step forward in their approach and execution.
