DMA Opposes “Overly Broad” New York State Cybersecurity Regulations

The Data & Marketing Association (DMA) has filed comments opposing cybersecurity regulations proposed by the New York Department of Financial Services. DMA, which represents the entire ecosystem of data-driven marketing, asserted in its comments that the proposed regulations diverge from established federal cybersecurity standards, and would further complicate the existing patchwork of state laws currently on the books. The full text of DMA’s comments can be read by clicking here (PDF). “Established federal guidance for cybersecurity, supported by industry self-regulatory codes and practices, provide a robust standard of protection,” said Chris Oswald, DMA’s VP of Advocacy. “Any additional regulation relating to cybersecurity should be done at the federal level in a manner that allows the flexibility that companies need to keep pace with technological innovation and evolving cyber threats.”
